beauty. in every sense of the word.

i have fallen in LOVE.
with the illustrations of Amy Sol, an American artist.
the grace and femininity she puts into her work mesmerisies me. i honestly became hyponised by her artworks. literally spent about 2 hours scanning every inch of her website, soaking in as much of her talent as i could.
artists like Amy Sol make me want to continue creating art for the rest of my life. her delicate style and nuetral tones- without forgetting all her adorable characters featured- all work together to create a magical fantasy story, only fit for the most dainty of princesses. her genre is known as 'cartoon-tainted abstract surrealism' in the art world. to me she paints what i wish the world could look like. she generally works on untreated wooden panels, incorporating the beautiful wooden texture and grain into her works, giving them a sense of warmth, a sense of life.
her work could inspire the most uninspired.
which makes Amy the most perfect person for me to discover right now.
these are only a few of my favorites (i might just post more later. im a little addicted, i'll admit)

“What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new”

now that i have graduated my art is no longer a result of a brief i was given, with guidlines and regulations. regardless the work i did throughout my degree is still precious to me. and builds up my portfolios "past" only making its future that much more exciting.
so here are a few of my favorites, created between 2008 and 2010.

"fly away bunny" illustration (2010)

Amazon woman illustration used for a packaging project (2010)

Egyptian woman illustration used for a packaging project (2010)

Ancient Chinese Goddess illustration also used for a packaging project (2010)

Doug Nerd used in the same video game project (2009)

*all the linework shown in all the illustrations were done by hand, then rendered in both Adobe Photoshop and Illusrator*

passion on paper

i have always loved the simplest of drawings. Just lines connecting together to form a master piece.
"a line is a dot taken for a walk"
the wise words of my very first art teacher in high school. and its always stuck with me. it makes the idea of drawing not seem so daunting or covered with pressures of perfection. i actually find the simpler drawings are the more appealing ones. its easier to grasp someones attention with swirls and twirls but the fine technique of a simple line drawing just mesmerizes me.
for me, drawing is the perfect therapy. even when its the simplest of doodles. it calms me down, frees my mind. allowing me to create scenes only found in my imagination.
now being a post grad, i feel like iv lost touch with my drawing hobbie. in college it was a requirement to always sketch and create, whereas now i need to find time, between work, eating and sleeping (and the occasional party- my social life has been lacking some recently). life seems to have shifted for me and my creative side has been pushed to the back of the list, unfortunately.
so i am using this blog as the oppertunity to rekindle my relationship with design, and gives me the perfect platform to showcase my art, as well as share inspirationing artists and beautiful peices.
so im ready to dig out my pencil bag and sketch pads, and let the drawing begin.
